The Summer in Washington (SIW) program organizes political and public-service focused events in DC over the summer months and is often referred to as the IOP’s “third semester.” It is as an opportunity for students to gain exposure to the broad range of careers and experiences in politics and public service – from meeting with elected officials to visiting polling firms and think tanks, museums, and much more – and to create a community for Harvard undergraduates around politics and public service. Open to all Harvard Undergraduates living and/or working in Washington DC, the program also provides opportunities to interact with Harvard alumni, explore Washington, DC and connect with peers.
Rising freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, and the Class of 2015 are all welcome to participate.

"The Summer in Washington program is the best way to gain political knowledge, explore the nation’s capital, and make great friends. During the summer of 2014, nearly 200 Harvard students spent the summer in D.C. and enjoyed an entire calendar of political and social events run through the IOP. From midnight tours of the Capitol, to coffee with senators, to paddle boating around monuments, the Summer in Washington program is packed with exciting opportunities. Whether you are looking for connections for jobs or just more Facebook friends, the program is a great way to meet both classmates and professionals in the city. If you’re in the city for the whole summer or just stopping by, make sure to sign up and check out the Summer in Washington programming. "
