Director's Intern Highlight: Eric Cheng

Eric Cheng is a rising junior in Quincy House concentrating in Economics with a secondary field in Mind, Brain, and Behavior. Originally from Troy, Michigan, he is interested in the intersection of behavioral studies and public service in addition to their applications to entertainment and media.

This summer, he is excited to build on his interest in social justice through working with Erase the Hate, NBCUniversal and Civic Nation's reinvented campaign dedicated to supporting and amplifying the efforts of individuals and organizations working towards a hate-free America.

Of his internship at Erase the Hate, Eric says:

I have gotten to work with and meet incredible and accomplished people in the public service and entertainment spaces. I love the people that I am working with and am inspired by the people leading this campaign. I am proud to be able to say that I am working everyday on a project that I believe in and hope will create real change.

On campus, Eric is a cast member of the Hasty Pudding Theatricals and is involved in acting with the Harvard-Radcliffe Dramatic Club. He is a Peer Advising Fellow, a proctor for the First-Year Arts Program, and a member of On Harvard Time. He is also involved with dance on campus through Expressions Dance Company and Eleganza. Last summer, he served as an intern with the GLBTQ Legal Advocates and Defenders.

The Director’s Internship program is a signature of the IOP. Since 1995, the IOP has partnered with high-profile organizations and elected officials around the world to provide substantive, career-oriented summer internships for undergraduate students interested in politics, government, and public service. These are fully-funded internships that allow students to gain experience in the public sector that may otherwise be difficult to obtain or finance. Students have reported these internships as leading to careers, larger networks, and significant development of professional skills.
