Secretary Betsy DeVos, 11th United States Secretary of Education, addressed the forum on the importance of giving parents the right to choose where their children attend school. Sec. DeVos spoke about how at this moment in time, she nor the rest of the America know exactly what the future of school choice looks like, but that it should be in the hands of parents. Sec. DeVos stated that she is committed to supporting a safe and nurturing learning environment for all, and that the first step toward achieving this goal is eliminating the biggest barrier to opportunity: school choice. Academic Dean and Ford Foundation Professor of Democracy and Citizenship, Archon Fung, as well as the Henry Lee Shattuck Professor of Government and Director of the Program on Education Policy and Governance at Harvard University, Paul Peterson, co-moderated the event.
