Cambridge, MA – Harvard’s Institute of Politics (IOP), located at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, will open its 40th Anniversary celebrations featuring remarks by U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) Friday, September 29 at 6pm.  Following his remarks, Sen. Kennedy will be interviewed by former PBS contributor and CNN “Inside Politics” host Judy Woodruff in the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum at 79 JFK Street in Cambridge.  Kennedy’s interview and remarks will focus on his service in elective office and the work of the Institute of Politics, a memorial created in 1966 to his brother President John F. Kennedy, that has aimed to engage young people in politics and public service for four decades.  Sen. Kennedy will be introduced by his niece and IOP Senior Advisory Committee member Caroline Kennedy.

On Saturday the Institute will continue the 40th Anniversary celebrations by hosting three separate panel discussions, also in the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum, exploring the next generation of leadership; the 2006 elections; and how the world may change over the next quarter century.  Events Friday and Saturday are ticketed; see the Institute of Politics’ website for information: http://www.iop.harvard.edu/. Journalists interested in covering the IOP’s 40th Anniversary events should contact the IOP Communications Office at (617) 496-4009 to reserve space on the press riser.
