A State-by-State Guide to Absentee Voting

How do I request an absentee ballot?
You can print out an absentee ballot request form (PDF format) online .

You will have to include the following information: name under which you are registered to vote, home address (i.e., in Hawaii), birth date, Social Security number, election(s) in which you intend to vote absentee (primary, general, or both), address to which your ballot should be mailed, and your signature.

Where do I send the request?
Send it to the appropriate county clerk for the county in which your Hawaii residence is located. The addresses are on the form.


What is the deadline for requesting an absentee ballot?
You must mail your request form no earlier than 60 days and no later than 7 days prior to Election Day:
October 28 for the General Election

What is the voting procedure?
You do not need witnesses. Instructions for voting are included with the absentee ballot.

What are the deadlines for voting absentee?
All absentee ballots must be received by the appropriate county election clerk (listed on the application form) no later than the close of polls on Election Day:
General Election: November 4

What are the election dates and deadlines for 2008?
General Election/Special Election: November 4 (Registration closes October 6)

Is permanent absentee status available?  

No, although you may request ballots for the primary election and general election on the same form.
