Send your request to your local Absentee Election Manager, found here. Be sure to include a copy of a valid government-issued photo ID, or utility bill proving your residence.

What is the deadline for requesting an absentee ballot?

In Alabama, the deadline for requesting an absentee ballot is five calendar days before Election Day:
October 31 for the General Election

What is the voting procedure?The absentee ballot comes with three envelopes—one plain, one with an affidavit, or oath, printed on the outside, and one pre-addressed envelope. Once you have filled out the ballot, the procedure is as follows:

  • seal the ballot in the plain envelope
  • place the plain envelope inside the accompanying affidavit envelope
  • seal the affidavit envelope and complete the affidavit that is on the outside of the envelope
  • sign the affidavit and have the signature witnessed by either a Notary Public or two witnesses 18 years of age or older
  • place the affidavit envelope and a copy of your identification inside the third envelope
  • either hand-deliver the ballot to the Absentee Election Manager or send it by U.S. Mail.



What are the deadlines for voting absentee?
By Mail: the ballot must be postmarked by the day before Election Day:
November 3 for the General Election

In Person: the absentee ballot must be received by the absentee election manager by the close of business (but no later than 5 PM) on the day prior to the election.

What are the election dates and deadlines for 2008?
November 4 for the General Election
