In 2003, the Institute of Politics, working with colleges and universities across the country established the National Campaign for Political and Civic Engagement. Participating schools work on their own campus and collaboratively in three key areas:

One reason for a lack of political engagement is poor communication. Young people may opt not to vote because candidates do not speak to them and, in an endless, vicious cycle, candidates do not speak to young people because they do not vote. |

Students "learn by doing" is a maxim that applies well to the world of politics and public service. The National Campaign works with other organizations to develop an extensive database of public sector internship and job possibilities for students. |

Many of our nation's schools are not preparing adequately students to be active citizens. The Institute of Politics believes that an understanding of the workings of politics and government is a vital element of every young person's education and citizenry. |
