Study groups present a tremendous opportunity for students to learn informally from leading public servants, political practitioners, journalists, academics, and more. Organized as semester-long, non-for-credit weekly seminars, study groups are hosted by the Institute's Fellows and other distinguished group leaders. Study group topics range from local to global issues, and are offered in a variety of formats, including project-based working groups, skill-building workshops, and traditional Q&A-based discussion groups.
No prior experience with, or knowledge of, the topic is necessary. Participation in discussion is encouraged, as is weekly attendance, but neither is mandatory. Consistent with the Institute's mission, study groups are designed specifically to involve undergraduates, but they are open to all Harvard students, faculty, and staff, as well as the general public.
IOP Study Groups are designed and geared towards students. They are meant to be small, off-the-record discussion groups. Study Groups are open to the public; however, preferential seating will be designated for both undergraduate and graduate students of the University. Also, because of room occupancy constraints and fire code regulations some people may not be able to enter the designated room of the study group. The IOP thanks you for your understanding. In keeping with IOP study group tradition, all study groups are off-the-record. No reporting on the study group is permitted.
