Campaign 2008: Looking Ahead

Campaign 2008: Looking Ahead was designed to create a dialogue among the principal decision-makers behind the candidates early in the presidential campaign season. The events were modeled on the long-running Institute of Politics program, Campaign for President: The Managers Look Back, in which top representatives from all of the leading presidential campaigns provide a rare exchange of views and confidences about the strategies and tactics employed by the key decision makers in a presidential campaign.

This event provided a stimulating opportunity for campaign representatives to interact and engage in a discussion about the challenges and issues facing candidates early in the nominating processes, projecting forward through the general election. Campaign representatives were asked to talk about the trials and opportunities they consider particular to the 2008 cycle, as well as the markers they believe should be put down for all participants, including the campaigns, the activists, the state and national parties, the Old and New Media, and the voters.
