How many hours to I have to work to receive the IOP Stipend?
Students should work full time for at least 6/8 weeks in the summer or part time for at least 12 weeks. If a student is working on a political campaign for a shorter period of time, but have put in the equivalent with longer hours, s/he must be able to confirm hours worked by a supervisor.
The Turnaround time for the checks is usually around 3 weeks. We are at the mercy of the Financial Office up at Holyoke, so sometimes it takes longer, especially at the end of the fiscal year (JUNE). We encourage all students to have their checks sent to an off campus address (Legal Home Address), to ensure that someone can look for it and receive it.
Unfortunately, all checks have to be mailed out to campus or home addresses. The Financial Office, for the last few years, has had that restriction.
Per office of Risk Management at Harvard, (Greg Murray at 62167), any liability claims would go through the internship placement because the injury/accident happened on their property. If the issue is a matter of health, the IOP stipend recipient would be covered under Harvard Health Insurance or the student’s parents insurance.
As long as you would be considered an Active Student, and can show us something from the Registrar's or Dean of Students office which can show us that you have re-enrolled for the Fall, then you are eligible to apply. As you know, stipends are not guaranteed, but we could certainly consider your application if those requirements are met.
The IOP is opening up a limited amount of funding available for undergrads to accept unpaid positions in political or public service offices abroad, including with the U.S. State Department.
