KSG Graduate Level Stipends

The Institute of Politics (IOP) is offering four summer internship stipends to Kennedy School of Government students. The stipends are for students who will be interning with an active political campaign or with a third party organization who is engaged in political activities related to campaigns. The IOP is funding these types of summer internships because they are ineligible for the KSG Summer Internship Fund. The campaigns can be with Republicans, Democrats, or with any other party. However, the distribution of the stipends will be equal amongst parties.

KSG Students are responsible for obtaining employment, and the position should be full-time and last a minimum of eight weeks. Summer stipends are intended to benefit students with non-paying or low-paying positions. KSG or joint degree candidates are eligible and  must be returning to school in the fall to qualify.

Awards of $3,500 will be made on a competitive basis with consideration given to the financial need, substance, location, and potential value of the job to the applicant.

A selection committee comprised of Institute of Politics staff will review all submissions. IOP staff will ensure the anonymity of all applicants during the evaluation process. Recipients must prepare and submit to the IOP a brief summary of their experience at the conclusion of the internship.

Students must submit the following:

  1. Information sheet (see below)
  2. Personal Essay: Describe your internship. Why do you want it? What do you hope to accomplish this summer? In what ways do you expect this experience to affect your future plans?
  3. Letter from the prospective employer verifying the intention to hire the student. Applications must include this letter in order to be considered by the committee. Suggestion: Request your letter early to make the deadline!
