Our Repower America challenge – which calls on the U.S. to generate 100% of our electricity from clean sources within ten years – is reshaping how our leaders are thinking and talking about climate solutions.

The Director’s Intern will be assigned in the following areas:

  • Social Networking. Build the climate change presence on social networking sites, assist in the dispersion of online media material, develop new mechanisms for viral marketing, and help with other online efforts as needed. Experience and interest with social marketing is required.

Create and distribute compelling materials to assist members of the We Campaign who are hosting house parties. Work with We campus chapters to develop events at universities nationwide. Excellent communications skills, creativity and event/party planning experience are a plus.

  • Marketing & Communications. Field, screen, and track requests for media participation and public speaking appearances.  Assist with media research activities and tracking earned and paid media. Knowledge of marketing or corporate social responsibility is a plus.

CENTER FOR AMERICAN PROGRESS, Washington, D.C.
*Special Note: Students must apply through the organization at: http://www.americanprogress.org/aboutus/intern

The Center for American Progress is a think tank dedicated to improving the lives of Americans through ideas and action. We combine bold policy ideas with a modern communications platform to help shape the national debate, expose the hollowness of conservative governing philosophy, and challenge the media to cover the issues that truly matter.

Our work builds upon progressive ideals put forth by such leaders as Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, JFK, and Martin Luther King. We draw from the great social movements of the 20th century—from labor rights and worker safety, to civil rights and women's suffrage. We translate those values into new ideas and action firmly rooted in the economic and political realities of the 21st century.

Founded in 2003, CAP is headed by John D. Podesta, former chief of staff to President Bill Clinton and professor at the Georgetown University Law Center. CAP is designed to provide long-term leadership and support to the progressive movement. Our ability to develop thoughtful policy proposals and engage in the war of ideas with conservatives is unique and effective.

Our policy experts cover a wide range of issue areas, and often work across disciplines to tackle complex, interrelated issues such as national security, energy, and climate change. This year, we are pushing to keep four leading issues at the center of the national debate:

  • Restoring America's global leadership to make America more secure and build a better world.
  • Seizing the energy opportunity to create a clean, innovation-led economy that supports a sustainable environment.
  • Creating progressive growth that's robust and widely shared, and restoring economic opportunity for all.
  • Delivering universal health care so that quality, affordable health services are available to all Americans.

The Center for American Progress offers internships in all departments.  Please see our website for descriptions and instructions on how to apply:  http://www.americanprogress.org/aboutus/intern.

WILLIAM J. CLINTON FOUNDATION - Clinton Climate Initiative, Rome, Italy
The Clinton Climate Initiative was launched in August 2006 to develop and implement a range of actions that will accelerate greenhouse gas emissions reductions worldwide. With cities contributing approximately 75 percent of all heat-trapping greenhouse gas emissions to our atmosphere, while only comprising 2 percent of land mass, large cities are critical to winning this fight and slowing the pace of global warming. One program in CCI brings together cities, building owners, banks and energy-service companies to make changes to existing buildings to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to coordinating this program, CCI is providing direct assistance to individual cities and facilitating the sharing of best practices. CCI is also working to organize a purchasing consortium that will help cities buy energy efficient technologies at lower prices and create a measurement and information tool to help cities take an inventory of energy use to help direct future activities. Rome, Italy is one of the participating cities in this effort, and its CCI City Director is looking for the IOP Director’s intern to help with research, writing, and meetings facilitation. Proficiency in Italian is a requirement, and a strong background or interest in business, economics, or climate change is a plus.
