The Albright Group is a global strategy firm that delivers solutions and
advice for businesses and organizations in a rapidly changing world.
Principals in the company include former Secretary of State Madeleine
Albright, former EPA Administrator Carol Browner, and former high-ranking officials of
the US Department of State. The Director's Intern will conduct research on international
business, political, and environmental topics; prepare briefing materials for
principals and client-specific projects; work on corporate social
responsibility projects; and assist in the planning of media appearances
and other events.
DORIS KEARNS GOODWIN RESEARCH POSITION, Boston, MA
Doris Kearns Goodwin is the Pulitzer Prize winning author of numerous acclaimed
presidential histories, including Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream, No Ordinary
Time, and, most recently, Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln.
Her current book project focuses on the Progressive Era and the relationships between
Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and leading journalists of the day. The
Director's Intern will be tasked with collecting research and documents related to these
subjects, and should have excellent library research, writing, and organizational abilities.
GOVERNOR ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Sacramento, CA
EXECUTIVE OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR AND LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR
The Executive Office of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will
offer an IOP Director's Internship for Summer 2007. All internships are
full-time and 10-14 weeks in length. The Governor's Office provides an
excellent opportunity to learn about state government and the political
process. Specific duties and responsibilities vary from office to office,
but have in common the expectation that interns are familiar with routine
office procedures. Once the IOP Director's Intern is selected, we will
then decide in which office they would be working. The various offices
include; Appointments, Cabinet Affairs, Communications, Constituent
Affairs, First Lady's Office, Legislative Affairs, Executive Writers, and

GOVERNOR DEVAL PATRICK, Boston, MA
An internship with Governor Deval Patrick and Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray’s
administration will provide a motivated student with the opportunity to engage in the “ins
and outs” of state government at the executive level. The Governor’s State House
offices serve as home to the First Lady’s Office; the Lt. Governor’s Office, Press,
Interactive Communications, Speechwriting, Human Resources, Appointments, the
Judicial Nominating Council, the Governor’s Council, Scheduling, Legislative Affairs,
Public Liaison’s office, Administration, Policy & Cabinet Affairs, and Constituency
Services. Each component of the Governor’s office has a unique view of the larger state
government agencies with which we operate and interact. Interns should have the
attitude that no task is too big or small; no individual too deserving or undeserving of our
respect and kindness. Interns will be delegated research and writing as well as general
administrative duties. In addition to day to day exposure interns will be invited to a
speaking series with the Governor, Lt. Governor, cabinet and staff.
Patrick - Murray interns give their campus communities a face for the administration and
should therefore reflect the administration’s outlook.
Parliament: Dominica
This internship will give the student the opportunity to learn about the
functioning of a Westminster model Parliamentary Democracy in one of the Small Island
Developing States (SIDS) of the Caribbean, formerly a British colony.
"In June 2000 the European Union (EU) and 77 countries in Africa, the Caribbean and
the Pacific (ACP) signed a new cooperation agreement: The Cotonou Agreement. This
partnership is not restricted to governments. Opportunities for participation are also
provided to civil society organizations, economic and social partners and the private

have an interest in strengthening Democratic Governance through increased participation
and empowerment of Civil Society, NGOs, the Media and other Non State Actors. The
intern will be working directly with Office of Hon Norris Prevost, Parliamentary
Representative for the Roseau Central Constituency. Key Responsibilities will include:
Conducting field and web research on government/civil society, NGOs, and other nonstate
actors relations; assisting in writing of briefings, organizing workshops on the above
and related issues. Participate in research and planning for new web and electronic
communication strategies for non-state actors, as well as for the Parliamentary
Representative. Assist in writing project proposals for non-state actors to access
resources."

Founded in 1973, The Heritage Foundation is a research and educational institute - a
think tank - whose mission is to formulate and promote conservative public policies
based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom,
traditional American values, and a strong national defense. This internship will appeal
most to students more aligned with the conservative approach to policy. Key
Responsibilities during the Internship are: 1. Provide necessary research for Domestic
Policy analysts on a wide range of domestic policy issues including social, economical
and health care policy. 2. Attend conferences and Hill briefings on domestic policy
issues. 3. Provide reliable Internet-based research for analysts. 4. Update Department
databases. 5. Make copies, collate, and staple materials as requested. The areas of study
that someone could be researched would include: Social Security reform, Tax reform,
Federal Spending & Budget, Transportation, Regulation, Marriage & Family, Welfare,
Education and Religion.
(THE) HILL NEWSPAPER, Washington, D.C.
The Hill is a non-partisan, non-ideological weekly newspaper that describes the inner
workings of Congress, the pressures confronting policy makers and the many ways --
often unpredictable – in which decisions are made. Its print circulation of 21,000, the
largest of any Capitol Hill publication, is aimed at the 100 senators, 435 House members,
40,000 aides and tens of thousands in the influence industry whose work affects the lives
of all Americans. The Director’s Intern will need some prior journalistic experience to
qualify for this position and a good knowledge of Capitol Hill.

INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY (IAEA), Vienna, Austria
The IOP Director's Intern will serve in the Division of Public Information,
which deals with the entire spectrum of Agency activities, as well as
assist one of the senior staff in their work on Agency media and public
outreach. This would provide the intern with good exposure to the range
of IAEA activities, as well as providing the opportunity to assist on
specific priority issues. The IOP Director's Intern will be supervised
by Ms. Melissa Fleming (IAEA Spokesperson) and the assignments will include
inter alia assisting with media enquiries, preparing drafts of public
information materials, assisting in the coverage of Agency events, and
related issues.
Past experience has shown that interns need to be well versed in the
Agency's activities. The website, www.iaea.org, contains a wealth of
relevant information. The Director's Intern must have excellent
communications and organizational skills. Interns are expected to work a
normal day (8 hours) and be available for ad hoc assignments that might
go beyond normal hours. Interns are subject to the IAEA's Staff
Regulations regarding confidentiality and information security. The
final candidate will need to provide additional documents for the IAEA
as well- which will be shown to the student at the appropriate time.
INTERNATIONAL REPUBLICAN INSTITUTE, Washington, D.C.
The International Republican Institute is a non-profit, non-partisan organization
established to advance democracy worldwide. IRI currently has programs in over 73
countries where it assists with political party and candidate development, public opinion
research, civil society development, voter education, good governance training and
leadership development, as well as electoral reform and election monitoring. Candidates
should have knowledge or a strong interest in political science or international affairs and
familiarity with the region to which they are applying. Additionally, applicants with
political party, campaign, and/or legislative experience are highly preferred. Language
skills are a plus. There are three divisions at the IRI, who are interested in accepting an
Intern from the IOP, please note your preference and explain your qualifications in your
essay:
Eurasia Division
Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, and
Ukraine
Additional Qualifications: Knowledge of Russian language strongly preferred.
Asia Division
Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, and
Singapore
Additional Qualifications: Knowledge or significant interest in politics in Asia (countryspecific
or regional) as well as a background or strong interest in democracy promotion,
women/youth/ethnic minorities in politics and capacity building. Language capabilities
are a plus, but not necessary.
Latin America Division (LAC)
Brazil, Columbia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, and Venezuela
Additional Qualifications: Spanish language skills required. Portuguese language skills
a plus.

The Intern will be attached to the Public Relations Office, but will gain valuable
experience and work on a wide range projects within a number of Departments at the

Mayor and his household. In previous years, Harvard Interns have been involved in
projects as varied as identifying stories and writing copy for a fortnightly London
newspaper column; undertaking a cost/benefit analysis for the Lord Mayor’s vehicle
fleet; assisting at media events; undertaking data analysis and commentary on research
drafts; and liaising with other local councils across the country as part of an internal

REPUBLICAN LEADERSHIP COUNCIL, NJ
It's My Party Too will offer an IOP Director's Internship for Summer 2007.
All internships are full-time and 10-14 weeks in length. It's My Party Too is a political
action committee and 527 that advocates for the historic Republican principles of liberty,
individual responsibility, and personal freedom. IMP-PAC's vision is a Republican Party
that is unified by the basic tenets of fiscal responsibility and personal freedom, but that
allows for diverse opinions on social issues by its members. IMP-PAC is dedicated to
supporting fiscally conservative, socially inclusive Republican candidates
at all levels of government.
This internship provides an excellent opportunity to learn about grassroots organizing and
the "other side" of the political process, particularly interesting in this age of campaign
finance reform and "web 2.0" organizing. Once the IOP Director's Intern is selected, we
will then work with the individual to determine his or her interests and arrange workload

LOUISIANA RECOVERY AUTHORITY, Baton Rouge, LA
The Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA) is the policymaking board
overseeing Louisiana's recovery from Hurricane's Katrina and Rita. The
LRA was created by Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco to determine the
public policy recovery priorities of the state, recommend the most
appropriate use for more than $12 billion in federal rebuilding funds to address these
priorities, advocate for additional resources needed to advance the recovery, and provide
accountability and oversight to the implementation of recovery programs. The LRA is
overseen by an engaged and active board of directors that includes Xavier University
President and recent National Medal of Freedom recipient Dr. Norman Francis, former
Time Magazine Managing Editor and CNN President Walter Isaacson,and Donna
Brazille, the campaign manager of Al Gore's 2000 presidential campaign. The LRA is a
small recovery agency, designed on the model of the Lower Manhattan Development
Corporation, and that operates under the umbrella of the Governor's Office. The LRA
currently has two internship openings that apply to serve in any of the following five
recovery policy areas: K-12 Education, Economic and Workforce Development,
Housing, Infrastructure, and Health Care. Applicants must have outstanding written and
oral communication skills as well as an interest in government and disaster recovery
issues. Applicants will be expected to be resourceful, entrepreneurial, and able to make
quick decisions to address problems in the state's recovery. Interns will be expected to
follow a range of issues closely by attending meetings, conducting research, determining
the political and policy challenges surrounding different issues, and making
recommendations to staff--and possibly LRA board members--on what policy courses of

serves as the central public relations office for the city. This internship is a great learning
